Refurbishment of a protected structure

Extensions, alterations and refurbishment of a fine detached house located at the edge of Foxrock village, near Dublin. The original house dated from the early 19th Century. Over the years the house had developed accretions, and had lost its clarity and order. The brief was to refurbish the house to modern standards using best conservation techniques, while retaining the comfortable ambience of this substantial country house.

Additionally, stables other outbuildings were to be converted and incorporated into the house Works included the removal of several internal walls and chimney breasts to reform simple circulation routes, repairs to staircases and reinstatement of ornate plasterwork as well as a complete overhaul of the entire building envelope.
