Alterations and Refurbishment
The existing changing rooms were in poor condition and deemed unsatisfactory by the client and user groups. The location of the building however is excellent.
The client brief sought to upgrade the changing rooms to provide clean, modern and pleasant facilities for users, who range in age from youth teams (7-16) to adult teams of both sexes. The new building should be robust and capable of absorbing heavy treatment form the user groups with limited maintenance, but was also required to sit comfortably in the park environment.
Following a review of options, it was decided to retain the shell of the existing building and extend it in matching design and materials. New layouts utilising simple robust materials provided required flexibility which the exterior was fitted with subtle protective treatments including new planting to discourage graffiti.
The building has been in use now for a number of years and has proved hugely successful.
